Striving to learn to better serve the community......................
The Seneca Fire District is holding Firefighter 1 & 2 classes at Racine Station 1. Currently there is 20 firefighter attending. “It is just one more step in the big picture towards increasing service to the community” state Chief Bruce Jeffers.
The Seneca Fire District Board along with the Officer Staff has been working for many months to start this class. Fortunately monies from the Seneca Fire District Ladies Auxiliary allowed the Fire Department to purchase then need class materials to hold the class. Local instructors have agreed to teach the class at no charge to the Fire District. “Once everything came together we made the announcement that the class was starting the first of October” stated Jeffers. “We have several seasoned firefighter taking the class that had took the class many years ago and are renewing their accreditation.” Jeffers went on to say.
“This class will give a good base for the department to expand on” Stated PIO/Captain Michael Steele. The class will last through the month of February. Once class time is complete a written test and a practical test will be given to the firefighters.
If the Fire District had to pay for this class it would cost approximately $ 500.00 per firefighter. This money would have to come
out of the operating budget which is already being stressed due to high maintenance cost of the apparatus. The Seneca Fire District is very excited and grateful to those who are making this possible.
